A cable is a symptom, not usually the cause
Cables rarely fail on their own. They fail because a spring went, because the door was out of balance, or because the drum or the track pulled them out of line.
Each cable runs from the bottom bracket of the door up to a drum on the torsion shaft. The drums wind both cables at the same rate, which is what keeps the door level as it travels. When one cable snaps or jumps its drum, that corner drops, the door racks in the tracks, and it wedges.
So we do not just fit a new cable and leave. We look at what pulled it out of line in the first place, because a cable replaced onto an unbalanced door is a cable you will be calling about again.
- Cable replacement. Both cables, sized to the door, wound onto the drums evenly.
- Cables off the drum. Re-seated and re-tensioned, with the door re-levelled.
- Drum and shaft check. A worn drum or a moved shaft will shred the new cable too.
- Balance check. We confirm the springs are holding the door before we leave.
