Noise is the first symptom, not the problem

Tracks do not move on their own. Something loosened, something wore, or something hit them. We look for that before we straighten anything.

The rollers should run the tracks with almost no friction. When the track drifts, or a roller flat-spots, the door starts fighting the tracks instead of riding them. That noise is the door and the opener taking the load, and both of them will lose before the track does.

An off-track door is the same story a few months later. By then the panels are usually marked and the rollers have chewed the track, which is why the noisy stage is the cheap stage.

  • Track alignment. Vertical and horizontal tracks reset square to the opening.
  • Roller replacement. Worn and flat-spotted rollers swapped out.
  • Track lubrication. The right lubricant in the right places, which is not the track face.
  • Off-track recovery. The door lifted back into the tracks and re-checked for damage.
  • Balance check. A door that keeps coming off its track is usually not a track problem.
